The Department is headed by the director of Lands Administration and Valuation and is supported by two Deputy Directors two Assistant Directors and other supporting staff as stated in the Ministry’s Organogramme.
The Department is responsible for Land Administration inn the state. It carry out its functions in accordance with the LAND USE ACT of 1978 and other laws enacted from time to time.
For the efficient discharges of its duties, the department is divided into five divisions namely:
- Industrial/commercial division
- Residential Division
- Lands transaction (Deeds) division
- The Revenue Division
- The Research and Data Division
In addition to the above Division, which are headed by very senior officers, the Valuation unit is also under the Lands Department.
The specific functions carried out by these divisions include:
- The industrial / Commercial Division:
This Division is responsible for the processing of applications received in the Ministry for industrial, Commercial (including petrol stations) and Agriculture purposes. It also handles applications for Land by the state and Federal Government for public use.
- The Residential Division:
This division is responsible for the processing of applications for the following: Residential, Trade and residence, Nuisance trades, philanthropic and religious purposes. The Division also treats applications for prospective mining leases, mining camps and way leave licenses.
- The Land Transaction (Deeds)
This Division deals with the processing of applications for Mortgages, Assignments, Sub-leases etc. for approval.
- The Revenue division
This division is responsible for the issuing of initial bills for grantees of plots it also demand for for annual ground rents those already holding titles.
- The reasearch and data division
This division has the Land registry under its care and supervision. It is responsible for the keeping of all Land documents and files.
